A hands-on exploration program
The Oklahoma State University Information Systems Technology Exploration Academy (ISyTE) is an action-packed, hands-on program designed for high school students interested in the vital intersection of business and technology. This six-day program will allow you to learn from industry leaders and current MIS students and faculty about information system practice and career possibilities.
The OSU ISyTE Academy will be held at the OSU-Stillwater campus and is sponsored by the OSU Department of Management Science and Information Systems in the Spears School of Business, The Kerr Foundation, Inc., ConocoPhillips, and the OSU Center for Executive and Professional Development.
A real-life college experience
While at ISyTE, you will get to experience college living first-hand. You will stay on the campus of Oklahoma State University with current OSU MIS graduate students, who will oversee the educational, cultural and recreational activities at ISyTE.
A scholarship opportunity
You could be one of 20 lucky students to receive a scholarship that covers 100% of the fees associated with the OSU ISyTE Academy, including all meals and lodging.
To qualify for this scholarship, you must:
- demonstrate interest in computer-related technology
- be a high school student entering grades 10-12
- be enrolled full-time at a high school in Oklahoma (or equivalent for homeschooled students)
To apply for the high school academy May 31-June 5, 2009 on the OSU-Stillwater campus, submit an application form and all accompanying documents to the OSU Center for Executive and Professional Development by 5 p.m. on March 27th, 2009. OSU ISyTE Academy Activities
At the OSU ISyTE Academy, you will get to spend a week on the OSU-Stillwater campus interacting with current OSU MIS students and faculty members.
Daily Field Trips and Activities
You will get to experience several field trips and cultural activities, which may include trips to the Woolaroc Museum in Bartlesville and a high elements ropes course at OSU Camp Redlands. In addition, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at ConocoPhillips in Bartlesville, Chesapeake Energy, Devon Energy and the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, and several OSU IT departments. You will get to take a tour of the famous Boone Pickens Stadium on the OSU campus.Plus, you will get to dine in Bricktown in Oklahoma City and Stillwater’s famous eateries Eskimo Joe’s and Hideaway Pizza.
IT Exploration Modules

IT Module 1: “Build It” Learn the how computer components work together to process information. You will get a box of parts, tools and software, and you will build a functioning computer.

IT Module 2: “Connect It” Teams of students get a box of ‘stuff ’ and build a network of computers or other devices such as an Xbox. Building from IT Module 1, you will learn to interconnect computers into a basic network and get an introduction to the client-server architecture.

IT Module 3: “Protect It” Protecting information is critical in today’s world. You will learn how to “keep hackers out” by deploying and configuring intrusion detection systems, firewall and other network projection devices.

IT Module 4: “You Are Being Watched” You will get an eye-opening look at just how much information is available about you through open sources and learn how that information can be used by Internet predators or hackers.

IT Module 5: “CSI Stillwater” You will receive replicas of the digital evidence the Wichita police used to catch the BTK killer and be asked to catch the accused.

IT Module 6: “Cracking It” You will use your math skills to create strong passwords that are secure and difficult for hackers to crack.

IT Module 7: “Emerging Technologies” An introduction to some of the latest information technologies to included radio frequency identification (RFID) and voice recognition. Students learn how these technologies will be applied to solve problems in the near future. Basic math and probability skills help to illustrate the concepts.

What Do You Want To Be?
In this workshop, you will participate in assessment exercises to learn more about your interests. You also will learn how to apply for college, more about OSU and about careers you might pursue in IT.
