The Department of Economics equips students with the analytical skills required for conducting high-quality research and applying economic principles to decisions made in business, government and daily life. Our students develop a fundamental understanding of human behavior and master analytical techniques required to expand knowledge in the discipline.

Fields of study

Our students are taught in the major fields of study within economics.

Regional and Urban Economics

The field examines issues related to the intersection of economics with geography and public policy. A major focus is on the study of economic forces related to the development and growth of urban and rural areas.

Development Economics

Development Economics is the study of developing countries and the people who live there. It uses economic theory to ask how to improve the economies of these countries and the quality of life of their inhabitants. Our faculty are actively engaged in field work involving the collection of both observational and experimental data.

International Economics

International economics includes topics related to international finance and international trade. Research in international economics can be based on microeconomic or macroeconomic methods, depending on the question under consideration.

Dynamic Macro and Macroeconometrics

This research field covers a range of topics to address issues in Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, International Macroeconomics, and Financial Economics with emphasis on dynamic models in Macroeconomics, and linear and nonlinear models accompanying with nonstationary issues of Macroeconomic and Financial Time Series.
