CEPD to host project management team seminar

The OSU Center for Educational and Professional Development will be hosting a seminar titled “Building Successful Project Management Teams” September, 23 in Tulsa, Okla.  The seminar will be conducted by Margaret White, Spears School associate professor of management. The seminarwill be held at the OSU-Tulsa Conference Center, room 153 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. White will discuss the process of developing a successful project team.  The seminar will focus on learning how to manage people, and resources, to accomplish goals within a project.  The seminar includes teachings from The Project Management Book of Knowledge to aid in learning about the unique nature of each project and how to accomplish it effectively.  The registration fee is $195 per person.  To register for the seminar or for more information, please visit http://cepd.okstate.edu/execprodev/content/index.html  or call the OSU Center for Executive and Professional Development (866) 678-3933 or 405-744-5208.

Spears School to celebrate Business Week September 15-19

Oklahoma State University's Business Student Council will serve up a variety of food, facts and fun September 15-19 to celebrate Business Week 2008.
 
Business Week is an annual five-day event sponsored by BSC to showcase the Spears School of Business. The celebration features activities and events designed to educate OSU students about the opportunities the Spears School offers and help prepare them for life after college.
 
The activities begin Monday, September 15 with a "Back to Business Bash" on Library Lawn. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., BSC will be serving free pizza and beverages. In addition, business organization representatives will be available with information about Spears School clubs.

OSU FMA chapter receives national awards
 
The Financial Management Association International at Oklahoma State University has earned the both the FMA Superior Chapter Award and the FMA Gold Membership Development Award for the 2007-2008 academic year. Both awards are presented to fewer than 5 percent of FMA chapters around the world.
 
The Superior Chapter Award is presented in recognition of excellence and dedication to the professional development of finance students. To earn this award, the OSU FMA chapter met or exceeded a number of specific criteria, including the ability to demonstrate exemplary chapter management and excelling in providing members program activities.
 
Chapters receive the Gold Membership Development Award in recognition of excellence in the recruitment of new student members. The Gold Membership Development Award indicates a chapter recruited more than 100 student members throughout the previous academic year.

Six Spears School students selected as Top Ten Freshmen

Six Spears School students are among the top Oklahoma State University freshmen for 2007-2008.
 
Haley Cosner, Amalia Deines, Ry Fleming, Andrew Henry, Jennifer Dawn Sharp and John Jordan Stivers were selected as Top Ten Freshmen Men or Top Ten Freshmen Women.
 
Selection of the Top Ten Freshmen students, who are now in their sophomore year at OSU, is based upon scholarship, community service, campus involvement and outstanding leadership from their freshman year.
 
More than 100 students applied for the honor in 2008. Applications were reviewed by a committee, and the Top Twenty Freshmen, both men and women, were selected. These 40 students were interviewed and the Top Ten Freshmen Men and Top Ten Freshmen Women were selected based on a combination of their application and interview scores.
 
The selection of the Top Ten Freshmen Men is organized by the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society, and the selection of the Top Ten Freshmen Women is organized by the Mortar Board honor society.
 
The Top Ten Freshmen Men and Women were recognized Sept. 13, 2008, at the OSU versus Missouri State football game.
 
Spears School students selected as Top Twenty Freshmen Emily Cole, Chelsey Johnston and Jon McDown.

ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholars application period now open

Spears School of Business ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholars program application period opened September 1, 2008 and closes October 31, 2008 for awards beginning in Fall 2009. This program includes a $5000 scholarship per year plus enrichment activities.  The application is located online at http://spears.okstate.edu/spirit_scholars.

If you plan to study abroad during the winter intersession, spring semester, and spring break, scholarships are available from the study abroad office right now on a first-come, first-served basis. You can obtain more details at http://ieo.okstate.edu/ieo.aspx?page=120

All of this year’s Spears School’s international programs are during the summer and scholarship applications for those are available the second Wednesday of the Spring term. There are many more students seeking outside funding during this program time, so we recommend you have all your materials together and arrive at the Study Abroad office well before they open. Additional scholarships are available for Spears School students, with preference going to those who also applied through the Study Abroad Office. More information about the Spears School International Travel Scholarship program will be made available in January.
