ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholars application period now open

Spears School of Business ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholars program application period opened September 1, 2008 and closes October 31, 2008 for awards beginning in Fall 2009. This program includes a $5000 scholarship per year plus enrichment activities.  The application is located online at http://spears.okstate.edu/spirit_scholars.

Spears School study reveals that Oklahoma commercial banks are sound

Gary Simpson, professor of finance and the Oklahoma Bankers Association chair of commercial bank management, analyzed all 249 of the state’s commercial banks as of Sept. 19.
 
Simpson said he found the individual institutions to have strong capital positions, which serve as a buffer against losses and allow banks to handle economic downturns.• read more

Chakrabory to chair session at M2008

Goutam Chakraborty, professor of marketing, will chair a session and speak at M2008, a Data Mining Conference, in Las Vegas on October 27-29. The conference is the world's largest data mining conference of its kind.  More than 800 people worldwide attend from industries including financial services, insurance, technology, education, healthcare, pharmaceutical, government and retail.

Lee Manzer

Manzer to present storytelling seminar to help business and government professionals achieve better customer relations

Lee Manzer, professor of marketing, will present a seminar titled “Storytelling to Enhance Organizational Performance" on Sept. 25, 2008, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the CREC Training Center in Stillwater. The seminar is part of the LeadershipSource Professional Development Program sponsored by the Center for Executive and Professional Development and Central Rural Electric Cooperative.
 
Attendees will learn the value of storytelling in a culture that can reach far beyond societal culture. They will learn techniques that will create a comfortable working environment and learn how storytelling can effectively solve conflict and help generate better customer relations. • read more

September 30 The OSU Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature (OIL) Delegation and Student Government Association as well as the Young Democrats and College Republicans will be hosting a political fair on Library Lawn on September 30th. There will be representatives from state and local parties, voter registration booth, candidates, political student group booths, an issues forum, and a canned food drive. The goal of the event is to educate students on the political campaigns and also register at least 2000 new voters. Admission to the event will be 1 canned food item.
