Marcus Buckingham to reveal “The Truth About You” at presentation Nov. 5
Marcus Buckingham, noted speaker and author of First Break All the Rules and Go Put Your Strengths to Work, will visit the OSU-Stillwater campus Nov. 5 to discuss his latest book, The Truth About You: Your Secret to Success.  Buckingham’s new book challenges students and young professionals to defy the conventional wisdom of choosing a career path primarily for financial security and stability, and to take a stand by following their strengths and interests, giving them the ultimate edge in work and in life. The presentation will be Nov. 5, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Wes Watkins Center. This event is presented by the Spears School of Business--OSU Center for Executive and Professional Development in cooperation with the OSU Student Government Association and OSU Career Services.

“OSU is committed to bringing nationally-known speakers to the Stillwater campus to share their insight, experiences and creativity with students and faculty,” said OSU President Burns Hargis. “We look forward to what we will learn from Marcus Buckingham.”

This presentation is ideal for college or high school students as well as professionals.  Participants who attend this event will receive a copy of the new book, a DVD and a RE-Memo Pad.  Ticket prices are $25 for students, $35 for educators, $40 for other individuals and $60 for a mentor/mentee ticket (1 individual ticket and 1 student ticket). OSU Homecoming LogoOklahoma State University begins its annual week-long homecoming celebration Oct. 13, 2008. Homecoming is one of largets and most widely known traditions at OSU.Every year, thousands of OSU alumni and fans return to Stillwater, taking part in what is heralded as the biggest and best homecoming celebration in the country.The 2008 Homecoming theme is "generation COWBOY."

The Spears School Alumni Board will host a Homecoming Open House for alumni, facutly, staff and students from noon to 2 p.m. in the Business Building lobby.Homecoming 2008 will culminate with the Cowboys host the Baylor Bears on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m.

Dalal presents paper at conference in Greece

Nik Dalal, professor of management information systems, presented a paper titled “Wisdom networks: Towards a wisdom-based society” at the First World Summit on the Knowledge Society in Athens, Greece. The summit was organized by the Open Research Society and held Sept. 24-28 in Athens, Greece.

“Managing Difficult People” seminar to be held Oct. 14
Mac McCrory, Oklahoma State University adjunct instructor, will teach “Managing Difficult People in Difficult Situations” on Oct. 14 at OSU-OKC from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. This program is sponsored by the Center for Executive and Professional Development and is part of OSU Management and Professional Development Seminars. The seminar shows that anyone of any level can learn to deal with the difficult people that the workplace can often have.  This seminar will teach participants the practical things needed to help effectively manage challenging people and situations. Oklahoma Municipal Clerks Conference to be held Oct. 15-17
Oklahoma Municipal Clerks, Treasurers, and Finance Officials Association (OMCTFOA) is holding their 52nd annual conference on Oct. 15-17, 2008, at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

“The theme of the conference is Bedlam – OSU and OU – chosen by the advisory board,” said Mandy McKinney, CEPD program coordinator and director of the OSU Institute for the Municipal Clerks. “The conference will include a number of keynote speakers, educational seminars and activities aimed at learning how to manage ‘house divided’ situations. We already have 120 participants registered for the conference.”

ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholars application period closes Oct. 31

Spears School of Business ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholars program application period opened September 1, 2008 and closes October 31, 2008 for awards beginning in Fall 2009. This program includes a $5000 scholarship per year plus enrichment activities.  The application is located online at http://spears.okstate.edu/spirit_scholars.
