Business Career Services to provide 45 free tickets to Marcus Buckingham presentation
Business Career Services is sponsoring a block of tickets for the Nov. 5 Marcus Buckingham presentation to make this opportunity free to students. There are a limited number of slots available (45) to allow students to attend an event that would normally cost $25. Tickets are first come, first served. Please stop by 112 Business, to pick up a ticket.

This presentation, The Truth About You: Your Secret to Success, will be held Nov. 5 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the West Watkins Center.This event is presented by the Spears School of Business Center for Executive and Professional Development in cooperation with the OSU Student Government Association and OSU Career Services. It is ideal for college or high school students as well as professionals.

Participants who attend this event will receive a copy of the new book, a DVD and a RE-Memo Pad.  Ticket prices are $25 for students, $35 for educators, $40 for other individuals and $60 for a mentor/mentee ticket (1 individual ticket and 1 student ticket). Sharda and Kasiri present paper at INFORMS meeting

Ramesh Sharda, regents professor of management science and information systems and ConocoPhillips chair of management technology, and Narges Kasiri, management science and information systems graduate teaching associate, presented a paper “Scheduling Email Processing: An SPR Formulation” at the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) meeting in Washington, D.C.

Nicholas Romano

Romano publishes paper about research advance in electronic collaboration

Nicholas C. Romano Jr., associate professor of management information systems, recently co-wrote a paper titled "Synthesizing the research advances in electronic collaboration: Theoretical frameworks." The paper was published in the International Journal of e-Collaboration. Romano's co-authors include James B. Pick and Narcyz Roztocki.

Developing Effective Attitudes in the Workplace workshop to be held October 23
Effective attitudes breed happier, more productive employees and thus significantly contribute to an organization’s success. Crucial Communication in the Workplace workshop to be held November 5
A bad conversation can make all the difference in your day, your job or even your career—or someone else’s. Mac McCrory, OSU-OKC vice president for business & industry relations, will discuss “Crucial Communication in the Workplace” Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at OSU-Tulsa. In this seminar, participants will learn how to disagree without offending, positively convey feelings, effectively praise and probe and criticize without confrontation. Seminar to develop innovative middle managers
The “Developing Innovative Middle Managers” seminar, taught by James Pappas, professor of management in the Spears School of Business, will teach middle managers how to influence upper–management decisions, champion ideas, implement strategies and add value. The seminar will explore how leveraging knowledge, skills and social connections can help renew an organization’s core capabilities. ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholars application period closes Oct. 31

Spears School of Business ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholars program application period opened September 1, 2008 and closes October 31, 2008 for awards beginning in Fall 2009. This program includes a $5000 scholarship per year plus enrichment activities.  The application is located online at http://spears.okstate.edu/spirit_scholars.
