Attention December graduates!
The OSU Alumni Association and OSU Career Services have free gifts for all December Graduates! Please stop by the Countdown to Commencement held at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center December 2 through December 4 between 10:00a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Graduating seniors who attend will receive a free year of alumni association membership, as well as one year access to the Hire System among other items!

2nd Place Data Mining Team Spears School students win national awards
Two student teams from Oklahoma State University earned second and third place honors at the national "data mining" shootout competition, which was part of the 11th annual data mining conference "M2008." The conference was hosted by SAS and held Oct. 27-28 in Las Vegas. These students competed against 35 other teams from across the nation. This is the second time in two years OSU students won the majority of the awards in the data mining shootout competition held annually by SAS. Universities from across the nation participate in this prestigious tournament, and no other university has received more awards than OSU in the history of this tournament.

Staff Longevity Awards 2008Twelve Spears School staff members recognized for service
Twelve Spears School staff members were recognized for their service to Oklahoma State University at the annual Staff Advisory Council Distinguished Service Award Ceremony on Nov. 5. Spears School staff members earning service pins include:

  • Karen Culton, manager of Spears School personnel, 40 years

  • James Hromas, director of university extension, 40 years

  • Cindy Conway, senior information specialist, 20 years

  • Deborah Cooper, graduate programs administrative support specialist, 15 years

  • Sherry Hesler, CEPD program assistant, 15 years

  • Jay Boyington, assistant director of the Master of Telecommunications management program and MS in MIS program, 10 years

  • Yankun Li, director of research and financial services, 10 years

  • Chinese partnershipOSU signs extended agreement with leading Chinese University
    Oklahoma State University and one of the most prestigious universities in China have signed an agreement that is expected to lead to new options for students who wish to study in China. The agreement could result in the development of a program at the Spears School of Business that would enable Chinese students to transfer to Stillwater and complete a bachelorŐs degree at OSU. In addition, it could enhance Chinese language instruction at OSU and offer a student exchange for OSU students to study in China while paying OSU tuition and fees.

    Spears School Hall of Fame 2008Spears School inducts new Hall of Fame members
    The Spears School of Business Hall of Fame banquet was held Oct. 31.

    John Groendyke, chairman and CEO of Groendyke Transport, Inc., and Rhonda Sweeney, former manager of learning processes and standards for ExxonMobil, were honored for their successful careers and contributions to OSU. The Spears School also honoredJason Boesch, Neil Hansen, Julie Polk and Chad Weiberg as Outstanding Young Alumni.

    The Spears School Hall of Fame recognizes OSU graduates who have distinguished themselves in their professional careers, displayed effective leadership, made exemplary contributions to their communities and freely given meritorious service to others. Induction into the Hall of Fame is the highest honor the Spears School can bestow. The Outstanding Young Alumni award recognizes Spears School alumni who have provided significant service and achievement early in their professional careers.

    Spears School faculty recognized at OSU Convocation
    Oklahoma State University recognized the outstanding achievement of faculty, staff and administration Nov. 19 during the annual University Convocation at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center.

    The University Service Award for a faculty member was presented to Patrick Dorr, Haskell Cudd professor of accounting. Dorr joined the OSU faculty in 1977 and is the Haskell Cudd Professor of Accounting. He is the founder and faculty adviser to "Takin' Care of Business," a business student group, and has served for more than 17 years as faculty adviser of Beta Alpha Psi, an honorary accounting organization. Earlier this year, more than 180 people contributed more than $400,000 to establish the "Patrick B. Dorr Beta Alpha Psi Professorship" in his honor. Dorr also received the Outreach Faculty Excellence Award given for faculty contributions as part of the university's outreach mission. This award includes a $1,000 monetary reward.

    The 2008 Spears School recipient of the Regents Distinguished Teaching Award was Carol B. Johnson, associate professor of accounting. The 2008 Spears School recipient of the Regents Distinguished Research Award was Tom J. Brown, Ardmore professor of business administration and professor of Marketing. Both awards carry a $1,000 permanent stipend.

    The Merrick Foundation Teaching Award, a $1,500 stipend presented to a faculty member who is judged to bring students a better understanding and appreciation of the American economic system, went to Jeretta Horn Nord, professor of management science and information systems.

    Sarah Chabinak, Spears School senior academic counselor received an OSU Award of Excellence for Advisement.
