Academic Standards:
MSTM students are subject to academic standards established by the OSU Graduate
College, OSU Catalog, and additional requirements established by the MSTM
Program Committee. The performance of each student is reviewed by the MSTM
Program Director and Assistant Director at the end of each semester. Unless a
student is currently on strict academic probation, to remain in good academic
standing, he or she must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 each
semester, earning no grades below "C." Only courses which apply to the MSTM
degree requirements are considered in the computation of this grade point
average.
Strict Academic Probation:
Any student receiving a
grade of "C" and whose overall GPA falls below a 3.0 is automatically placed on
strict academic probation for a period covering the next twelve credit hours of
MSTM course work. During the period of strict academic probation, students are
required to do the following:
- Earn a minimum grade point average of 3.25, earning no grades below "B",
during the period of strict academic probation.
- Avoid a grade of "I" except under unusual circumstances.
- Relinquish any graduate assistant assignment.
Any student earning a grade of "C" or lower during a period of
strict academic probation may be dismissed from the MSTM program.
Academic Dismissal:
Students may be dismissed from
further study in the MSTM program if at any time their performance is considered
unsatisfactory as determined by the graduate faculty or the MSTM Program
Committee. In addition to unacceptable academic performance, academic dishonesty
and academic misconduct are considered to be unsatisfactory performance.
Any student earning a grade of "D" or lower (whether currently on
strict academic probation or not) may be automatically dismissed from the MSTM
program. If a student who has been dismissed desires reinstatement to the MSTM
program, the student must submit a written request for reinstatement to the MSTM
Program Committee. Permission to continue in the program will be granted only if
the Committee believes extenuating circumstances existed which resulted in the
low grades. Should the student be readmitted for study in the MSTM program, the
student would be required to retake at the earliest offering the course in which
a "D" or "F" was earned. Readmission would be only under the conditions of
strict academic probation. Additionally, the Program Committee may attach other
requirements to the readmission.
Academic Dishonesty and Academic Misconduct:
The
M.S. in Telecommunications Management is a professional degree. As such, there
is no tolerance for academic dishonesty or academic misconduct. Such acts are
grounds for immediate dismissal from the MSTM Program.
Academic Dishonesty:
Academic dishonesty is
defined by the OSU Catalog as "behavior in which a deliberately fraudulent
misrepresentation is employed in an attempt to gain undeserved intellectual
credit, either for oneself or for another." Examples of such include dishonesty
in the completion of homework assignments or examinations and the representation
of any material written by another as one's own.
Academic Misconduct:
Academic misconduct is
defined by the OSU Catalog as "behavior that results in intellectual advantage
obtained by violating specific directions, rules, or accepted academic
standards, but without deliberate intent or use of fraudulent means."
