Admission deadline
is February 1. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis once all
application materials have been received. Therefore, early application is
suggested. Applications received after February 1 will be considered on a space
available basis.
In order for an
applicant to be considered she/he must have completed the following steps:
1. Submit to the
Graduate College:
2. Submit to the
School of Accounting Doctoral Program Coordinator:
- A copy of the
materials sent to the Graduate College.
- A personal
statement explaining why he/she wishes to pursue doctoral education.
- Three letters of
recommendation (Please note that the School of Accounting does not have a form
to complete. Rather, we prefer a letter describing the strengths and weaknesses
of the applicant and an explanation of why the recommender believes that the
applicant should be admitted to the doctoral program at OSU.)
- A current resume.
3. Have the GMAT
score sent to the School of Accounting at OSU. The institution code is
V0W-5V-95. The GMAT is REQUIRED.
Please note that
applicants will not be considered for admission until ALL of the above items
have been received.
When the
application package is complete the Accounting Doctoral Program Coordinator
evaluates the overall admissibility of the applicant and forwards admissible
packages to the Accounting Doctoral Program Committee. After review of the
applications, the Committee ranks the applicants and invites the top candidates
to campus for an interview. The day long interview includes interviews with the
Accounting Doctoral Program Coordinator, members of the Accounting Doctoral
Program Committee, the Head of the School of Accounting and other accounting
faculty members. Applicants are also given the opportunity to meet with current
doctoral candidates. After the interview a decision will be made regarding the
admission of the applicant into the program. Assistantships and other benefits
are available for candidates admitted to the program.
Admission Criteria:Admission to the
Ph.D. program in Accounting is open to students who have an outstanding academic
record and who wish to pursue an advanced degree in accounting. In order to be
considered for admission, a typical applicant should have a composite GMAT score
of at least 650 and an acceptable undergraduate and Master's GPA from an
accredited university. International students must submit a TOEFL score of at
least 600 (250). A screening interview is required. Admission is competitive.
The Accounting
Doctoral Program Committee may grant alternative admission to applicants who do
not otherwise qualify for admission but have overcome some educational,
economic, physical or cultural disadvantage and have demonstrated a high
probable capacity to succeed.
Master's
equivalency requirement:
A doctoral
candidate must have the equivalence of all master's level courses offered at
Oklahoma State University in his/her area of specialization. For example, a tax
candidate will have completed the courses that, at a minimum, would be expected
of a master's student specializing in tax. This requirement may at least in part
be attained by way of actual work experience.
In order to
accomplish this it may be necessary for a candidate to take more than the
minimum required hours. A doctoral candidate must use his/her electives to
strengthen research skills rather than to meet the master's equivalency
requirement.
Deficiencies:
Before entering the
program all candidates should have taken the following courses or the
equivalent:
- 4 hr calculus
(MATH 2144)
- Intermediate
(junior-level) Microeconomic Theory (ECON 3113)
- Intermediate
Statistics (STAT 5013)
