ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Outstanding
students from any field of study may apply. It is not necessary that applicants
have either an undergraduate degree in Business or an MBA. It is normally
expected that the applicant will have obtained a Master's degree in some area
prior to the initial enrollment in the program. Students are only admitted on a
full-time, in-residence basis. Admittance decisions are based on assessments of
intellectual capacity, research potential and motivation, and teaching
potential. Factors that are taken into consideration include:
- GMAT performance
(580 minimum, 600 or higher preferred)
Note: the GRE can be considered in
place of the GMAT (minimum of 75th percentile on each component and
overall)
- Performance in
previous degree programs (e.g., undergraduate and Master's GPA)
- Prior experience
in and motivation to conduct research
- Prior teaching
experience
- Business/industry
experience
- If English is a
second language, performance on TOEFL (230 minimum for computerized form, 600
minimum for written form) or the IELTS (6.5 minimum)
- Letters of
recommendation
The above
represents the full range of selection criteria that can be considered, though
it is not necessary that candidates possess research, teaching, and/or
business/industry experience. All selection criteria are considered, and
weaknesses in some areas will not necessarily preclude admission to the program,
except where specific minimums are stated.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
Students admitted
to the program begin in the Fall semester. Prior to officially applying, please
check with the Ph.D. Coordinator to make sure there are openings for the coming
Fall. Those interested in applying should begin by following the procedures
outlined by the Graduate College. You can obtain an application packet from the
Graduate College's website and/or apply online through this link: http://gradcollege.okstate.edu/default.htm. The Department of
Management requires additional materials beyond those required by the Graduate
College in support of the application. These additional materials can be sent as
part of the Graduate College application packet or they can be sent directly to
the Management Department Ph.D. Coordinator, and they include:
- GMAT and/or GRE
scores (institution code is V0W-5V-52)
- Resume or academic
vita
- Personal statement
of motivation to pursue the Ph.D.
- Evidence of
writing skill (for example, a term paper)
3 letters of recommendation
Letters can be
provided by past/current professors, workplace supervisors, or anyone else in a
position to comment on a candidate's intellectual capacity, drive/motivation, or
other personal qualifications relevant to the successful pursuit of a
Ph.D.
For full
consideration, applications must be received by March 1 prior
to the Fall semester you wish to be considered for admission. Applications
received after that date may still be considered on a space-available
basis.
