International Applicants

Applicants are required to submit a completed OSU Graduate College application (may be completed online) with official transcripts of academic degrees to the Graduate College. International applicants must also supply the official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and a financial affidavit.

Applicants are also required to submit a program application packet to the M.S. in MIS Program (may be completed online). Three letters of recommendation along with official Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores, a goals statement, and any previous MIS experience should be sent directly to the Director of the M.S. in MIS.

1. The admission standards for the M.S. in MIS suggests a minimum of 550 on the GMAT, or 1200 on the GRE (since October, 2002), or 1900 on the GRE (prior to October, 2002); a minimum 3.0 overall GPA average for the bachelor’s degree; and a minimum 3.25 GPA average in the major area. Exceptions will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
   
   International students must submit a minimum TOEFL score of 233 (or 575).
   
   
2. Each student, upon admission to the program, will receive individual academic counseling as to undergraduate deficiencies, if any. All students, regardless of the optionselected, are expected to have completed at least six hours of computer programming classes, including Visual Basic and Java or C++. These requirements should be met before a student undertakes the M.S. in MIS.
   
   Knowledge prerequisites for the M.S. in MIS include areas shown in Table 1 and may be satisfied by prior coursework, industry experience, or a combination of courses and experience. Any deficiencies among these can be remedied by the class or classes shown in Table 1. A student must complete any classes necessary for him/her to remedydeficiencies before the M.S. degree will be issued, but not necessarily before he/she may begin taking courses required for the degree. A student may take a course for the degree as long as he/she has met the prerequisites for the particular course. For example, a student may take the database class before or concurrently with a class needed to eliminate a deficiency in finance. A student may not, however, take the class on Enterprise Resource Planning before completing the financial and managerial accounting prerequisites for the program.
   
   
3. The counseling of each student will result in a Plan of Study and a list of classes necessary for that student to remedy any deficiencies.
   
   
4. Classes for this degree are offered at the OSU Tulsa and OSU Stillwater campuses, and also through Distance Learning.
