Current Tuition and Fees information can be found on the Bursar's website. The Master of Science in Telecommunications Management (MSTM) program at Oklahoma State University (OSU) offers a unique blend of theoretical coursework and hands-on application that enables graduates to understand computer networks and protocols; design implementation, and maintenance; and information assurance issues through forensics, risk management, and systems security.
Careers in Networking:
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook issued by the United States Department of Labor, employment of computer and information systems managers is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2016. Skills in business, communications, and engineering are considered necessary for individuals entering this highly competitive job market and today's business environment is heavily reliant on professionals who are both business managers and technicians. Graduates of the MSTM program have the business, technical and leadership skills needed for the converging worlds of business and technology.
Theoretical & Applied Curriculum:
Combining strong theoretical concepts with real world issues, the MSTM program is focused on network functionality and information assurance. The curriculum will give you a firm foundation in network components, resource allocation, and protocols of communication and routing. If information is power, information protection is critical and the MSTM is on the cutting edge of information assurance education and research. While you earn credit in the MSTM IA courses, you can also earn federal certificates in information assurance through the Committee on National Security Systems, giving you college credit with real world applications.
Sophisticated Learning Opportunities:
Our faculty are some of the finest in the field of information technology and the curriculum they delivery will take your skills to a new level. On-campus students will find a world-class research facility in the university’s Edmon Low Library with numerous online journals in the field of telecommunications; the hands-on environment of the Telecommunications Lab allows and encourages students to experiment with networking equipment; and the interdisciplinary nature of the program allows for courses from business, computer science and engineering.
The MSTM degree goes beyond the traditional college experience. Our distance learning option allows you to complete the degree without having to come to campus. Through video streaming and CD-ROM courses, students in the distance learning option get the same instructors and lectures, follow the same schedule, and receive the same assessment in examinations, homework, quizzes, and research papers. The advantage is having the class delivered to your computer at your home, your work, or on the road when your work requires travel. You never have to come to campus and you get a digital record of the entire class. It brings new meaning to non-traditional student.
Teamwork and Interaction:
Our partnerships go beyond the campus, either physical or virtual. OSU is a designated Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education and Research; our IA curriculum is recognized and approved by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. The university is home to the Center of Telecommunications and Network Security. Students from the MSTM program have earned the prestigious Information Assurance Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense. Those receiving this scholarship award receive financial support for tuition and books, lodging, and a substantial stipend for living expenses. They also work an internship with a federal agency and have a job waiting once they have completed their degree.
