Frequently Asked Questions |
What is B.S. in MIS?
OSU’s B.S. in Management Information Systems major is offered through the Department of Management Science and Information Systems in the Spears School of Business. This degree prepares students for technical as well as managerial careers in information systems. The degree is somewhat similar to BCA/MCA degrees offered in India, with a stronger emphasis in technical skills such as database management, systems analysis and design, data mining, enterprise systems, etc. Students have the opportunity to specialize in information security, data mining, and other current topics.
How long does the degree take?
The program consists of four years of coursework after high school (12th grade). First two years prepare a student with general education and general business background, followed by rigorous and relevant coursework in information systems.
What does it cost?
OSU has been recognized as one of America's Best College Buys in the annual U.S. News & World Report rankings. Plus, the Princeton Review named OSU as one of the best higher educational institutions in the western United States. Stillwater, the hometown of Oklahoma State University has been ranked one of the lowest cost college towns in the US. Even with full out of state tuition fee, the average cost of education at OSU is about $25,416.00. Students are allowed to work on campus to defray some of these costs. Merit-based financial aid may also be available to selected students. Thus the total cost of attendance at OSU may be about the same as that of a private college in India.
What does it take to get admitted?
Admission to OSU’s B.S. in MIS requires good grades in high school as well as scores in ACT or SAT. These tests can be taken in India. TOEFL is not required if the high school’s medium of instruction is English.. Admission application materials for OSU are available at: http://admissions.okstate.edu/ . In addition, the MIS department has set a special website.
What are the Opportunities after Graduation?
Graduates of our MIS program are highly sought by employers in the area and the U.S. We also believe that Indian graduates of the program will be very attractive to major Indian IT companies. Finally, graduates may pursue master’s degrees in our highly respected MS in MIS, MS in Telecom Management, or the MBA program. We already have a large number of Indian students attending these degree programs.
I am already in college in India. Can I transfer from an Indian college to OSU?
We are working to establish a 2+2 transfer program with selected schools in India. If you are in the first two years of undergraduate degree coursework in India, you may be eligible to transfer to OSU for the last two years and earn an OSU B.S. in MIS degree. Financial aid opportunities are available for this transfer program. If your university/college is interested in a formal arrangement, please have them contact us at msis.programs@okstate.edu .
