CAER report indicates future remains bright for Oklahoma's economy

A midyear review of Oklahoma's economic health shows even seasoned forecasters weren't as bullish as they could have been on projecting the state's resilience amid a languishing national economy.

"As it turns out, we weren't optimistic enough,” said Mark Snead, an Oklahoma State University research economist and director of the Center for Applied Economic Research at OSU's William S. Spears School of Business. "This is a fun time to be in Oklahoma. This is as good as it gets.” ...

Center for Applied Economic Research releases Oklahoma Economic Outlook

The Center for Applied Economic Research at the William S. Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University released their Economic Outlook today.

The report says their current outlook calls for continued slowing in job growth this year, totaling 1.4 percent for all of 2008, followed by 2009 job growth of 1.3 percent with the job growth gap between the Oklahoma and the U.S. sitting at about one percent.

The forecasting model the report’s author, Mark Snead who is director of the center, uses projects that it would take a significant national recession to push state job growth into negative territory ...

Economic impact study reveals impact of proposed baseball stadium in Tulsa

An economic impact study conducted by Mark Snead, director of the Center for Applied Economic Research (CAER) found a proposed baseball stadium in downtown Tulsa should generate about $13 million annually and create 200 permanent jobs. The Tulsa World recently published an article about the study.

Mark Snead, director of the Center for Applied Economic Research (CAER) recently was featured in an article about the Oklahoma housing market. Snead provided insight about why Oklahoma husing prices have remained constant, although sales of homes have slowed.

Watson family demonstrates desire to elevate university 

STILLWATER, OK - Oklahoma State University has announced a $1 million gift from Houston residents Kim and Chuck Watson to create two chairs: one in business and another in education at OSU.  Once fully matched dollar-for-dollar by T. Boone Pickens’ $100 million chair match commitment, as well as the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the gifts will have the impact of $4 million in endowed funds.
 
Moomaw to retire from OSU Spears School of Business Aug. 1

Ronald L. Moomaw, The Associates professor of business administration and professor and head of economics and legal studies at Oklahoma State UniversitySTILLWATER, OK – Ronald L. Moomaw, The Associates professor of business administration and professor and head of economics and legal studies at Oklahoma State University, will retire from the faculty of the Spears School of Business August 1.

Moomaw received a bachelor’s degree in economics with highest distinction from the University of Virginia and a doctoral degree in economics from Princeton University. He was an assistant and associate professor of economics at OSU from 1972-83; a visiting associate professor at the University of British Columbia from 1983-84, and returned to OSU as head of the Department of Economics from 1987-93.

Puterbaugh Foundation, Links and accounting donors fund two chairs and one professorship

Oklahoma State University announced today $1.4 million in donations received from alumni and a foundation to fund three endowed positions within the Spears School of Business.  Once fully matched dollar-for-dollar by T. Boone Pickens’ $100 million chair match commitment, as well as the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, the gifts will provide more than $5.6 million of impact in endowed funds.
