Monday, November 16, 2015

3MPNargotra_Speaking_7962Last Thursday, the Oklahoma State University Graduate College hosted the Three Minute Competition (3MP) finals. Of the 12 competing finalist, 10 were Master’s of Science in Management Information Systems (MIS) students from the Watson Graduate School of Management.

In the final round, the participants were judged on their communication, comprehension and engagement with the crowd.

The Watson Graduate School of Management students took home three of the four awards – first-place winner Raghav Nargotra, third-place finisher Monika Ambadi, and the People’s Choice winner Rajesh Tolety.

Nargotra, second-year Master’s of Science in MIS student, was pleased with his performance in the competition.

“The first time I gave my presentation I was like I made it good, I can win,” said Nargotra. “So, it has been a wonderful experience, and thank you to the Graduate College for hosting this event and giving us the opportunity.”

Sarah Chabinak, Watson Graduate School of Management senior academic counselor, spoke highly about the participating student’s preparation and dedication.

“What started as a simple class assignment for our MS MIS students turned into a great opportunity for them to share what they do with a wide audience,” said Chabinak. “A lot of time and effort went in to their preparation, and it showed when three of the four winners at the University level were MS MIS students.”

Oklahoma State’s Graduate College Associate Dean Ken Clinkenbeard created the 3MP competition. Modeled after the Three Minute Thesis, the 3MP competition is available to non-degree seeking students who are ineligible to participate in the Three Minute Thesis competition, a competition designed for students seeking research-based degrees.

The 3MP competitions were designed to teach students how to properly communicate the relevance and importance of what they studied in their disciplines to outside of their fields.

The other nine finalist who participated in the 3MP were Lacey Roberts, Autumn Zhong, Chandrani Bhagat, Vaibhav Borgaonkar, Rishabh Dimri, Abhinav Garg, Sid Grover, Snigdha Gutha, and Bhuvaneswari Yallabandi.
