OSU Human Resource Management Association earns national award
Written by Suzanne Simpson, Spears School communications intern

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State University Human Resource Management Association in the Spears School of Business has earned a Superior Merit Chapter designation from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for its scope of work in perpetuating and supporting the mission of the organization.

SHRM is the world's largest association devoted to human resource management. The Society serves the needs of human resources professionals and advances the interests of the human resources profession.

"This recognition is a distinct indication of the chapter's successful partnership with SHRM to serve the networking and professional development needs of human resource professionals and to the advancement of the human resources profession" said Pamela J. Green, SPHR, Chief Membership Officer for SHRM.The OSU Human Resource Management Association is one of 64 chapters receiving the distinction in SHRM's Southwest Central Region comprised of 10 states and 117 affiliated chapters.

"It's an honor to have our student chapter recognized with the SHRM Superior Merit Award," said Lance Fannon, former president of OSU's HRMA chapter and their current webmaster and merit award chair. "I believe that it is important to the continued success of the chapter. It's great to know that we are staying competitive with some of the top student SHRM chapters around the nation and goes to show how much hard work all of our officers and members put in this school year."

The merit award is a planning tool used by the chapter to organize activities and programs for the entire calendar year. These activities and programs must fall into one of four areas: basic student chapter requirements, chapter programming and professional development of members, support of the human resource profession, or partnership with SHRM.

The mission of OSU's HRMA chapter is to aid its members in gaining the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to make a successful transition to an HR or management position, Fannon said.

"Our student chapter provides a wealth of networking and educational opportunities to prepare members for their future careers," Fannon said.

To get involved with OSU's HRMA chapter, send an e-mail to hrma@orgs.okstate.edu or lance.fannon@okstate.edu.

Oklahoma State University is a modern land-grant system that cuts across disciplines to better prepare students for a new world.
