Spears School faculty member to serve as a national distance course reviewer

Spears School faculty member to serve as a national distance course reviewerSTILLWATER, Okla. - Marilyn Kletke, professor of management information systems at Oklahoma State University's Spears School of Business, has recently been chosen as a course reviewer for Quality Matters (QM).

QM has generated widespread interest and received national recognition for its peer-based approach to quality assurance and continuous improvement in online education. An online or hybrid course certified by QM is reviewed in more than 40 specific components to evaluate the course design so future students and faculty can have the greatest value from each course.

"Making distance courses better for students is the real goal," Kletke said. "Being a part of Quality Matters will give me the best opportunity to make recommendations on courses and help faculty develop their online materials into what students truly need."

Kletke has been a faculty member at OSU since 1981 and has taught both graduate and undergraduate distance classes for the past ten years. She is the coordinator of the Master of Science in Management Information Systems program and currently teaches undergraduate level courses. Her research interests include data mining, information technology, database management and decision support systems.
Kletke and Rick Wilson, professor and head of the Department of Management Science and Information Systems, are the only two Spears School faculty members certified by QM.

"It is impressive to have two of the Spears School faculty certified by Quality Matters who help convey the quality standards we would like reflected in our OSU distance learning credit courses," said Shona Gambrell, program manager for the Spears School Center for Executive and Professional Development. "As our distance learning courses evolve and change, it is useful to continually evaluate and modify courses that will directly impact student learning."

Quality Matters (QM) is a faculty-centered, peer review process designed to certify the quality of online courses and online components. QM generates widespread interest and strives for continuous improvement in online education.

The Center for Executive and Professional Development is housed in the Spears School of Business and offers more than 285 programs annually to approximately 17,700 people. These programs include public and on-site programs and conferences, distance learning and on-campus supplemental credit courses, study abroad and travel courses, executive and professional development, and retreat and conference planning.
