Spears School faculty earn teaching awards

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business is proud to announce the 2009 recipient of the Ken and Leitner Greiner Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award is Tracy A. Suter and the recipient of the Ken and Leitner Greiner Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award is J. Craig Wallace.

Suter is an associate professor of marketing in the Spears School and Wallace is an assistant professor of management in the Spears School.

Ken and Leitner Greiner established the Greiner Excellence in Teaching Awards in 1987 by to recognize, encourage and reward teaching excellence in the Spears School. The awards recognize an outstanding undergraduate and graduate faculty member annually through nominations by students and fellow professors.

“The Spears School has an overwhelming sense of pride when it comes to faculty and their accomplishments,” said Sara Freedman, Spears School dean. “Our professors consistently demonstrate

excellence in the classroom, and we appreciate the Greiners’ support in recognition of their efforts.”

Suter has taught a variety of courses with most recent emphasis on marketing research and creative marketing. He has published 20 journal articles and his work has been presented more than 50 times at regional, national, and international conferences.

Suter has received numerous awards and grants for both research and teaching activities including the University of Arkansas Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Sherwin-Williams Distinguished Teaching Competition Award at the Society for Marketing Advances, the President’s Outstanding Faculty Award at OSU-Tulsa, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Who’s Who in America.

Additionally, Suter has conducted research about electronic commerce, public policy, and integrated marketing communications and co-authored the seventh edition of Basic Marketing Research with Gilbert Churchill and Tom Brown.

“I would like to publicly thank Mr. and Mrs. Greiner for their support of teaching excellence at OSU,” Suter said. “It is an honor to be recognized by our students and colleagues and supported by such noteworthy alumni.”

Wallace teaches graduate courses in the areas of organizational behavior and research methods.

Wallace has over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles published in more than eight professional journals and serves on the editorial boards of Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management and the Journal of Business and Psychology. In addition, he is a part of the grant review panel for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Wallace’s areas of research and expertise include motivation and leadership, work climates, employee involvement, survey design and implementation, performance management, occupational health and safety, and organizational development. His research has earned him multiple awards including the American Society for Training and Development’s Research Award (2006), the Society for Industrial/ Organizational Psychology’s S. Rains Wallace Award (2007), and the Spears School Richard W. Poole Faculty Excellence Award (2006, 2007).

“I have won several research awards, but this is the first award I have won for my teaching,” Wallace said. “To date, this means the most because it gives me an indication that I am doing something right in the classroom and my students have taken notice!”
