Poole Awards: OSU business faculty recognized for excellence
The  School of Business recently recognized six faculty members for research excellence and a seventh for excellence in outreach. The  School of Business recently recognized six faculty members for research excellence and a seventh for excellence in outreach.

Spears School Dean Sara M. Freedman presented the Richard W. Poole Research Excellence Awards to Drs. Matt Bowler, Xiang Fang, Don Hansen, Tip McCubbins, Rathin Sarathy and Craig Wallace. The Richard W. Poole Faculty Outreach Excellence award went to Dr. Andrew Urich.

The research excellence award is presented exclusively to faculty members who have been identified among the best in their fields by having their research accepted and published in top-tier research journals.

“The Spears School is fortunate to have outstanding faculty who contribute to both the research and outreach mission of the school,” said Dean Freedman. “Drs. Bowler, Fang, Hansen, McCubbins, Sarathy and Wallace have demonstrated the highest level of scholarly activity in their fields. Professor Urich has developed an exemplary record of outreach through his activities with the Center for Executive and Professional Development in the Spears School and his involvement with the Oklahoma business community.”

Each of the awards, named in honor of the business school’s former dean, Richard W. Poole, who served from 1965 to 1972, include a monetary award.

Specifically, the published research that earned each of the six faculty members a Poole award, include:
  • “Emotional Exhaustion and Job Performance: The Mediating Role of Motivation,” by Matt Bowler, which was published in the Journal of Applied Psychology
  • “An Examination of Different Explanations for the Mere Exposure Effect,” by Xiang Fang, which was published in the Journal of Consumer Research
  • “Ecoefficiency: Defining a Role for Environmental Cost Management,” by Don Hansen, which was published in Accounting, Organization, and Society Journa
  • “As False Claim Penalties Mount, Defendants Scramble for Answers,” by Tip McCubbins, which was published in The Business Lawyer
  • “Disclosure Risk Problems with Confidentiality via Camouflage,” by Rathin Sarathy, which was published in Operations Research
  •  “Safety Climate as a Mediator Between Foundation Climates and Occupational Accidents: A Group-Level Investigation,” by Craig Wallace, which was published in American Psychological Association Reports.
