If you are a
prospective business major at OSU, you will find the information in
this section helpful. Perhaps you are currently attending OSU but are
enrolled in a different college on the OSU campus, you are a high
school student who is thinking of attending OSU as a business major, or
you are a student who is thinking of transferring to OSU to study
business.
For Current OSU Students
We encourage you to make use of the information in the Undergraduate
Programs section to help you decide whether a business major is right for
you and if so, which area. If you decide to transfer to the William S. Spears
School of Business (SSB), you will need to initiate the transfer in the Student
Services Office of the college in which you are currently enrolled.
For Incoming Freshmen
When
you decide that you are ready to apply to Oklahoma State University
select the Admissions link on the horizontal menu at the top of the
page for more information. We also encourage you to
access the requirements of
specific majors by viewing the degree requirement sheets of specific
interest.
Once you are
admitted, you will begin receiving a variety of information from OSU,
including information about housing, enrollment (the month of June is
typically designated as the time when freshmen come to campus to
enroll), orientation/acclimation opportunities (Camp Cowboy and Alpha),
etc. Several Camp Cowboy weekends (Friday night through Sunday) are
held during June and July. Alpha is held (Fall Semester only) at the
end of the week prior to the beginning of classes the following Monday.
For incoming
freshmen who have decided to major in business, consider the Business
Scholar Leader Program. To be considered for it, you must have a
minimum of 25 on the ACT, at least a 3.2 high school grade point
average, be involved in a variety of activities in your high school,
and be willing to participate in the Scholar Leader Program activities,
which include attending presentations made by well-known speakers and
meetings on campus. From among the individuals considered for the
program, 15 are accepted, which makes it highly selective. It provides
a yearly scholarship for four years (currently $1500 per year, payable
over two semesters). An additional enrichment activity is provided
after the junior year. To be eligible to stay in the program, students
must (1) maintain the required grade point average, (2) continue to
participate in the activities, (3) be approved for continuation by the
program director, etc.
During the time that the program has been in existence, its participants have
often emerged as student leaders in the School and in a variety of campus organizations,
have received a number of "Top Ten Senior" awards, etc. If you would like to
be considered for the program, please make your wishes known in a letter sent
to the Business Scholar Leader Director, 201 Spears School of Business, Oklahoma
State University, Stillwater, OK 74078.
For Transfer Students
To help you
assess your opportunities at Oklahoma State University, we encourage
you to make use of the information in the Undergraduate Programs
section of this Web site. In addition, two items (No. 4 and 5) in the
Checklist for Graduation section are pertinent to transfer students.
While attending a community college but prior to transferring to
Oklahoma State University to major in business, we recommend that you
try to complete as many as possible of the general education courses
that OSU requires. For the various business majors, you will find these
listed in the General Education section of the degree requirement sheets.
You might also consider completing the two Economics courses
(Macroeconomics and Microeconomics), the two Accounting courses
(Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting), and the equivalent of
our MSIS 2103 course (Business Computer Concepts and Applications) if
such a course is offered at your community college. However, we advise
you not to take at the community college any course that you are
required to take in your major that is a 3000- or 4000-level course at
OSU.
Transfer
students who are planning to attend OSU for the first time during a
fall semester will be invited to participate in Transfer Student
Enrollment, an event that is generally held on a Thursday and a Friday
early in April. Once accepted at Oklahoma State University to begin in
an upcoming fall semester, you will receive information about this
event.
