Spears School of Business will host
economists from around the world
The Department of Economics and Legal Studies at Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business will host Gretl Conference 2013 this summer in which participants from all around the world will travel to Oklahoma.
The Gretl Conference 2013 is for econometricians who are devoted users and developers of Gretl, an open-source statistical package used worldwide.
The conference is scheduled for June 20-21 in Oklahoma City, and it is the first time the group will be meeting in the United States. The previous two conferences were held in Toruń, Poland (2011) and Bilbao, Spain (2009).
“We’ve been to Spain and we’ve been to Poland, so being the first school in the United States to host the conference is exciting,” said Lee Adkins, professor in the Department of Economics and Legal Studies in the Spears School and organizer of this summer’s event.
“We are expecting some of the best econometricians and programmers that have benefited from using Gretl, which is easy to use and quite powerful. This is a tremendous honor for the Spears School and Oklahoma State University,” said Adkins
Adkins says economists from Poland, Italy, Germany and Spain have registered for the conference.
James MacKinnon, recognized as one of the top econometricians in the world, is scheduled to be the featured speaker. He is the Sir Edward Peacock Professor of Econometrics at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada.
Other speakers will be Allin Cottrell of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., and Riccardo “Jack” Lucchetti from the Polytechnic University of Marche in Ancona, Italy.
Gretl is an acronym for Gnu Regression, Econometrics and Time-series Library.
